I wonder though, what would the world look like if each of us had the support we needed to thrive in our lives?
I remember the day I brought my oldest son home from the hospital. Driving down the freeway, with this small little life snuggled into what I hoped was a safe and secure car seat, a sense of panic wash over me as I realized how little knowledge or experience with a newborn.
I often marveled at the thought that I went to school full-time for four years to prepare myself to be a teacher. I took tests, wrote papers, did practicums to demonstrate my knowledge and prove that I can teach before I was ever given a class of my own. Yet, I was trusted with a small infant with no required reading, papers to write, or tests to take.
I don’t know about you, but there have been times as a parent when I have felt so lost and alone. I’ve been at the end of my rope and wondered what in the world God was thinking when He made me the parent! Do you ever struggle to believe you have what it takes? Do you have moments when you pause and think, “this is not how I want life to be?” Do you feel like you are fighting the same battles every day and don’t know what else to do? Ever hear yourself speaking (or yelling) and wonder who “that person” is?
I pursued my PCI Parent Coaching Certification® after having many conversations with family, friends, and strangers I’d met at the park while my boys played. There seemed to be a common theme. We all wanted, no we needed, support to be our best selves. So many of us seemed to be in survival mode rather than thriving.
That’s where a Parent Coach steps in. I work with any parent who wants to be there very best for their family. Because here is the deal, you are enough. You are created with unique gifts, talents, and strengths that make you, you. Inside you, sometimes buried by the busyness and maybe hardness of life, is the wisdom you need to be the best for your kids. As I Parent Coach, I have the privilege of helping you discover that and along the way I’ll share with you some of my knowledge and resources that can grow that wisdom.
Here are some examples of clients I work with:
- New Parents. We can begin working together during pregnancy and through out the first year of life as parents are first establishing what being a parent looks like for you. We work on healthy sleep habits, establishing a routine for your family, and identifying your parenting identity.
- Toddler/Preschool Parents. These are intense days of parenting as you are establishing the foundations of your child. Parenting is intensely hands on during this stage. It can feel exhausting and repetitive. Parent Coaching creates space each week to be intentional about what it means to parent your toddler/preschooler.
- School Age Parents. The school age years bring a new set of challenges. There may be a new diagnosis or learning challenge that you are struggling to understand how to parent through. Media, peer issues, and attitude can become challenges during this stage of parenting as well. Working with a Parent Coach helps you to clarify what is best for your family and to design personal action steps to help move towards your preferred future.
- Life Changes. Life is constantly changing and sometimes we need support getting back on track with this new change. New job, parent returning to work, recent move, new schools, homeschooling, foster parenting, divorce/separation are all reasons people seek out Parent Coaching.
